Safari with Kids from ERJ Children’s Home, by Caroline Burns, Back2Back Mexico Staff

June 14, 2010

A few weeks ago, I went with a Family Christian Stores James Fund mission trip team that was serving with us for the week to go on a field trip with the kids from ERJ, El Retiro Juvenil Children’s Home. We went to my favorite field trip location on the entire planet: Bioparque Estrella. At this “zoo” you can go on a safari. As you can see from the photos, it was a little intense.

The giraffes are probably the most gentle animal you encounter there.

They look like velociraptors from Jurassic Park when they come straight at you for food.

Petting David, the giraffe

The kids had a great time but I think it was the Americans on this field trip who had the experience of a life time – one they’ll never forget!

Letters from the Heart, by Claire Rogers, Back2Back US Staff

May 21, 2010

Every quarter, we translate letters written from child sponsors and deliver them to the children at the homes we serve.  Often, sponsors include a family photo or stickers, but what is most impactful to the children is the realization that their sponsor is thinking of them. The children are so touched by the encouraging words of their sponsors and treasure the letters, sweet reminders that they are loved.  Thank you to all the child sponsors who through your correspondence brighten the day of the children we serve!  Sponsors can expect to receive return letters from the children in their mailboxes in June!

Interested in signing up to sponsor a child at one of the children’s homes that Back2Back serves?  Call our US office at 513-754-0300 and ask to speak with Claire.

Bringing Light to the Issue of Orphan Care, by Beth Guckenberger, Back2Back Staff

February 10, 2010

Todd and I just returned from the K-LOVE radio station’s annual Friends and Family Cruise on Premier Christian Cruises.  We were invited again this year to talk about orphan care on the cruise and join Family Christian Stores’ non-profit organization, the James Fund.  It was an amazing couple of days, as we heard fantastic Christian bands (David Crowder, Chris Tomlin, MercyMe, etc…), held seminars for the guests on orphan care and adoption, and raised thousands of dollars for one of our children’s homes, El Retiro Juvenil.   We met hundreds of people who have a heart for orphans and who are inviting them into their families and traveling to serve them in a way that evidences God’s pursuit of these children.

Like networking goes, we are hoping one door opens another and all the reasons why we were there last week we won’t totally see for some time.  We sure invited a lot of people to come visit one of our ministry sites.  We sent home papers explaining to all 2,600 passengers how they could continue to be involved financially with our ministry.   We fellowshipped with our partners in the James Fund in such a way that work didn’t seem so much like work at the end of the day…  isn’t that how it’s supposed to be?  Colossians 1:10 says “As you learn more and more how God works, you will learn how to do your work.”  Join us in praying for the seeds we planted…
